DOWNPATRICK IS ONE OF IRELAND’S MOST ANCIENT AND HISTORIC TOWNS, AND ST PATRICK PLAYS A KEY PART IN ITS INTRIGUING HISTORY. WITH ST PATRICK REPUTEDLY BURIED IN THE GROUNDS OF DOWN CATHEDRAL, ST PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATIONS HOLD SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE TOWN
Down District Council would like to invite everyone to join in the festivities of the St Patrick’s Day
Festival running from Wednesday 12 - Wednesday 19 March 2008. Whether you are a resident in
the district or a visitor from elsewhere in Ireland or even further afield, there is sure to be an event of
interest.
Throughout the festival you will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of St Patrick,
celebrate his life, explore the fabulous County Down countryside, and enjoy a range of concerts,
comedies, films, and other sporting and family events. As always the highlight of the festival will be the
St Patrick’s Day Carnival Parade. Taking place on Monday 17 March, the streets of Downpatrick will
come alive with colour and sound as the fantastic floats, costumes and entertainment pass through.
With almost 50 events to choose from, the 2008 St Patrick’s Festival has it all, so have a look through
